Newfoundland and Labrador Election Polling - January 29, 2021
Mainstreet’s first election poll done in the 2021 Newfoundland and Labrador election showed strong support for the incumbent Liberal party. Among decided and leaning voters, Andrew Furey’s Liberals sit at 62%, Ches Crosbie’s Progressive Conservatives follow behind at 26% and Alison Coffin’s NDP behind that at 9%. That Newfoundland and Labrador Alliance polled at 1%, with 2% of decided voters intending to vote for another party entirely.
Regionally the Liberal Party polled well ahead of its electoral competitors in every sub-region of the province, maintaining significant leads in St. John’s, the Avalon Peninsula and the Rest of Newfoundland. They also lead in Labrador and the St John’s suburbs.
The NDP led in second choice voting support at 28%, with the PCs at 21%. 11% of respondents said the Liberals are their second choice, and 4% said the Newfoundland and Labrador Alliance would be their second choice. 36% said that they either had no second choice or were undecided.
Respondents were also asked about how they intended to vote given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The majority of respondents (41%) said they plan to vote in person on election day while a smaller portion of respondents (28%) said they plan to vote in person during advanced polls. An equal number of respondents (16% each) said they intend to vote by mail or were unsure how they planned to vote in the upcoming election.
